In my own personal cosmology and organization of the way things are, there are three main spheres of being that people work within. One of those is The Warrior. The others (which will be discussed at a later date) are The Healer and The Searcher.
We all have at least a little of the Warrior nature in us. Without it, we stand little chance of truly standing up for ourselves or progressing through life and along our path.
When the term “warrior” is used, most think of some violent, physical and not-too-bright iconic image. We aren’t used to seeing the full range of the Warrior. Some don’t make good fodder for action movies. A true Warrior exists and works in all three spheres. He or she can also work at multiple levels–from the mundane and physical to the esoteric and spiritual. The spectrum is wide and deep and as varied as the mix of people in the world.
But one things brings them all together under the umbrella of The Warrior. They all fight for something. It is easy to see how a police officer can be a Warrior, putting his life on the line to protect those who are not equipped to stand up for themselves, risking all to enforce laws that keep others safe and secure. But a doctor can also be a warrior, dedicating her life to combating diseases and injuries, risking their own health and well-being to save others from things they may not understand.
A Warrior’s life is not an easy one. It is full of danger. That danger may be of a physical nature or of a spiritual one. In the course of fighting their fight, a Warrior may have to do things that will leave them excluded or ostracized from the community or group that they are fighting for. The life of a Warrior can be a lonely and solitary thing.
Many do not realize how important Warriors are. And so, they neglect to recognize those that serve. They may turn their nose up at the violence some Warriors must live with. They may brush off the sacrifices made as no big deal–because they themselves can not comprehend having to make those sacrifices. They may even say that there is no need for Warriors, grouping them in with common thugs or adrenaline junkies.
But true Warriors are more than that. They live by strong rules and serve the community. They may do things and believe things others do not agree with, but they do so in the best interest of the whole.
Yes, sometimes they falter. Sometimes they fall. As do we all. But in their hearts–in their souls–they feel a connection to the Universe. They feel the call of service.
Warriors serve as many of us would never wish to. Many Warriors serve as few of us actually could. For this reason alone, we should always honor them.
Most especially, we should honor those who have given their lives so that others can survive.
Yes, we all have some bit of Warrior nature in us… but it is those who are true Warriors that let us explore that part of our nature in our leisure.
