Well, it’s already been a hell of a year and we’re only a week into it. I started it out by doing a full-year Tarot spread to get a feel for what my, personal, year-long journey may be like. We’ve already covered the first quarter and the second quarter.
If the past year has taught us anything, it’s that the future will undoubtedly bring us things that we can’t even imagine this early on. So, while the layout is for a full year (and most of this is speculation to begin with), any interpretations of anything as far out as six months from now is going to be complete guesswork at best.
But we’re not really looking for specifics (you really shouldn’t be looking for terribly specific things in most divinations, in my opinion), just a general feel for things to watch out for–both good and potentially problematic. Divination is always an exercise in training one’s own perception more than actual prediction.
July
Overview: The Devil
Detail Cards: Two of Cups, Temperance, Seven of Pentacles (Reversed), The Empress (Reveresed)
Okay… that’s a turn from June’s mostly good (rough, but good) layout. That Seven of Pentacles turned upside down does not bode well for the work set in motion previously. And that inverted Empress is… problematic on numerous levels. Quite the contrast from the Two of Cups and Temperance in the first two detail slots.
With The Devil (not exactly a bad card, but one with some underlying tensions for sure) as the overview, it looks like July is going to be a very interesting month.
(Tempted to interpret The Devil to indicate we’ll be seeing record high temperatures, and that’s going to cause a lot of other things to run hot… harvests of any kind are not looking good. But since I did this as a personal reading, I’m not sure that big of an interpretation is called for.)
August
Overview: Eight of Swords (Reversed)
Detail Cards: Queen of Swords (Reversed), Death, Ace of Swords (Reversed), The World.
Seems I’ll definitely be seeing some sort of major transition in August. Those reversed cards wrapped around Death don’t particularly indicate it’ll be a pleasant transition, let along anything I particularly want or have been working toward. The prevalence of Swords overall reeks of conflict (especially with them all reversed–an indication that they’ll be coming at me rather than me being on the attack). At least there seems like there’ll be some sort of release and serious change of circumstance that will likely lead to something better.
Still not the smooth transitions I prefer.
September
Overview: Three of Pentacles (Reversed)
Detail Cards: Ace of Pentacles, Nine of Cups (Reversed), Four of Swords, The Sun (Reversed)
It appears there are some very conflicted things going on here. It looks like some sort of financial or business-related twist that looks like it’ll be good, but not really good for me on some levels other than just financial. I suspect there will be some relatively big, relatively difficult choice to make and I’d best keep myself firmly grounded and centered when it comes up, because it will be all on me to decide.
October
Overview: Nine of Wands (Reversed)
Detail Cards: Five of Wands, Judgement (Reversed), Six of Cups (Reversed), The High Priestess (Reversed)
So the only right-side-up card in this whole layout is the one specifically about conflict? Great. What’s going on in this whole set is a very obvious lack of balance on multiple levels. Note there aren’t any pentacles here, so the more “base” regular world stuff will at least appear stable. But emotions and thoughts? Spiritual well-being? Yeah… all sorts of turmoil in those areas.
But, hey, it’ll look great from the outside, right?
November
Overview: The Star
Detail Cards: The Hierophant, Eight of Cups (Reversed), Ten of Pentacles, Ten of Swords
The overview looks good. A bit dark, but at least a distinct light in the darkness. Some solid internal strength and structure from The Hierophant, so that’ll help.
Still some questionable emotional stuff going on there. Ignoring a lot of things in not the greatest ways. And, again, some really good pentacle-flavored news for material well-being.
But that pincushion at the end is probably my second least favorite card to see come up anywhere (the first still being The Tower). That looks like it’s going to be… unpleasant.
December
Overview: The Magician
Detail Cards: King of Pentacles, Four of Pentacles, Knight of Swords, The Lovers (Reversed)
Um.. that overview card is great considering that one of my goals this year is to reconnect to the metaphysical stuff I’ve been neglecting for a while. But, uh, those are not very “metaphysical” detail cards at all.
And that Lovers card is just a) a bit confusing to me right now and b) not at all how I like to see that card in a layout and c) very odd, indeed, in the context of The Magician.
Nothing to Do But Wait and See
So that’s the 10,000 foot view of the year to come. Can’t say I’m particularly looking forward to most of it. Also can’t say I’m at all surprised it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
Not much to be done other than run the course and do my best to avoid the hazards while not ignoring the good bits. Just like normal, except now I’ve gone and made a preliminary map that may help.
